Meet our founders

Freddie Howells

Medical student and co-founder, I tutor chemistry, maths and biology. My goal is to develop an understanding of the content and surrounding context, before using active recall and exam technique to secure my students the top grades.

William Self

I’m a medical student and co‑founder of Think Sharp Tutors, specialising in chemistry, maths, and biology. I focus on helping students truly understand the content, then apply active recall and sharp exam technique to turn that knowledge into top grades.

A short story about us...

Before we launched this company, we were just two students trying to figure out how to learn properly.

Through trial, error, and a lot of late nights, we each developed our own ways to study smarter — breaking down specs, tracking progress, and building revision strategies that actually worked. By GCSE results day, we’d both earned straight 9s. At A-level, we got A*s. And we made it into medical school.

We met at Exeter University, both tutoring privately, and realised we’d built similar approaches — practical, strategic, and focused on helping students take control of their learning. So we decided to build something bigger. Think Sharp Tutors is the result. We’ve taken the skills and systems that helped us succeed and passed them on — not just to our students, but to our team of tutors too.

Every tutor we work with brings strong academic credentials and tutoring experience, and they’re trained in the same methods that helped us thrive. We’re proud of the journey — not because it was perfect, but because it proves what’s possible. And now, we help students write their own version of that story.
